Moves are hard for everyone and they can be extra hard for autistic folks. On the other hand, in the medium term, moves can be very empowering. The sense of self that develops in a new place feels self-crafted, and a new place that once seemed strange comes to feel entirely one's own. Moving also gives a person two versions of themselves to contemplate -- the old me back there and the new me here. That gives a robustness to the one's self image.

I know that none of this counts in the short term, but as a parent of an autistic guy who weathered a very challenging move, I can report that it can more than pay off in the long run.

It's very natural for any young child to feel scared when moving to a new home. Thanks for sharing this moment in your life.
